If you happen to know nothing about yoga, here are the most important points:

  1. Yoga is not competitive, and is not a sport.
  2. Any body type and mobility level can benefit from yoga practice. Notice I said body – I’m not qualified to take into account neurology. I know people with ADHD that love yoga, and others that find it sets them back. There are no “one size fits all” answers anywhere in life.
  3. Yoga is a discipline, one best developed with slow, kind, gentle commitment.
  4. Yoga is a spiritual practice that intersects with multiple religions. Some of those religions include: Brahmanism, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism, and Jainism. In my training, several elements were aligned with what is called Hinduism in the US. However, no one has exploded on their mat from bringing a Christian prayer or meditation into a yoga practice. What is compatible with your religion or lack thereof is a private matter.
  5. Yoga communities committed to keeping to yogic values welcome people of all colors, creeds, ages, life stages, and mobility.
